The Holy Presence of God ~ 2 Samuel 6

Scripture: 2 Samuel 6

2,000 years ago, the long-awaited Messiah rode into Jerusalem on a colt at the start of Passover week. He was met by adoring crowds, pregnant with the anticipation that He was coming to overthrow their Roman oppressors and usher in the kingdom in glory and power. “Hosanna!” they shouted, as they laid down palms and cloaks in a presentation fit for a king. Yet despite all their zeal, they ha a fundamental misunderstanding of what Jesus had come to do. By the end of the week, that same crowd would be shouting, “Crucify Him!” as the Messiah they needed no longer became the Messiah they wanted.

This stark contrast of that week mirrors that contrast we find in 2 Samuel 6. Nearly 1,000 years earlier than Jesus’ triumphal entry to a time of similar joy and bitterness in Jerusalem – the time of King David and his fateful decision to relocate the Ark of the Covenant. We will learn a truth as relevant today as it was then: true worship accepts God on His terms, not our own.
